Since
your wedding album will keep your great memories alive for a lifetime,
you should choose your photographer carefully.
Look
at their work!
Is this the quality and style of photography you want in your
wedding album? Do you want mainly unposed candids or traditional
formal poses? Since you are looking to hire a professional photographer
you already know that you are not willing to settle for amateur
work. But don't forget there can also be differences between pro
photographers. Each has an individual style, equipment choices,
and end product i.e. your wedding album. Like
any other profession, photographers can range from outstanding
to poor.
Who will take the photos? Make sure the sample pictures
you loved were taken by the photographer who will actually shoot
your wedding. Some studios employ several photographers, with
different skill levels. At a larger studio the photos displayed
on the wall may not have been taken by the photographer assigned
to do your wedding.
Look at a complete
day's coverage, not just a collection of shots taken over the
years.
You need to see what an entire days output will look like. Can
this person take several hundred good photographs all in the same
day? Is the whole story of the day's events and emotions captured?
Inspect
sample albums.
Today's brides are looking for albums that reflect their own style.
If you don't like the album, are there other choices? Less expensive
photographers tend to use less expensive albums. Do you want an
album of 25- 8x10's or of 250- 4x5's?
Choose a photographer you will enjoy working with. Check
references against your own impressions. If you don't feel comfortable
with the photographer it could affect the expressions displayed
in the photographs or your enjoyment of your big day. When you
look at a photographers albums check to see if the people in the
pictures look like they are having fun.
Does the price fit your
photography budget? Have you allotted enough for your wedding
photography? Consider this: the day after the wedding the money
spent on caterers, florists, church, and reception is gone with
nothing much left to show for it. The wedding album, however,
you will have forever. Your grandchildren will look at this book
and marvel over how you looked way back in the year 2004!
